I suspect you’re right Graham. Too often IMO employers see many of their employees as dispensable. Often in favour of massive bonuses at the top.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I’m sure you and your husband saw the recent Mary Portas ‘Secret Shopper’ programme on Channel 4 where the top salesman had a Lamborghini and a waxed chest (bless!) but had no idea how to deliver excellent customer service, he only knew how to sell what he wanted the customer to buy, which was the most expensive product, and not necessarily the right one for the customer!

Particularly about the mobile phone industry. My husband is a salesman at one of the major mobile phone high street outlets – won’t embarrass him by telling you which one! And he is frequently praised by his customers – in fact some pass other stores in the same chain to see him – for helping them with their problems, and at the same time criticised by his manager for “wasting time” not selling. Targets are king!
